10th-Jun-2010 03:53 am - OVW Homecoming

In the business of professional wrestling, wrestlers develop strong relationships with promoters who either treat them very well, or help them reach new heights in the business. They also develop bonds with the fans of the companies with which they work. Because of these special bonds, when they can, wrestlers will return to territories for special shows. On Wednesday night, June 9th, several wrestlers from Ohio Valley Wrestling's past returned to the Davis Arena in Louisville for one of those special shows, called OVW Homecoming.

A great crowd witnessed this homecoming of names from OVW's past and loved every minute. In the opening match of the evening, Guido Andretti defeated Cash Flo. In the next match, Jason Lee lost to Randy Royal. The next match pitted Chris Alexander, against Johnny Spade which resulted in great action and divided fans in the house. Ultimately, Spade got the victory.

14th-Oct-2008 09:21 pm - Josie~! (minus the pussycats)
women wrestling
Christy Hemme and Lance Rock wrestled Eric Young and an unidentified women's wrestler in a dark match prior to Bound for Glory. The women's wrestler in question is Sojourner Bolt, who wrestled Awesome Kong on Impact a few weeks ago. Bolt is of course Josie from Ohio Valley Wrestling. She also wrestled Kong at Slammiversary, who defeated her and Serena Deeb in consecutive matches. Chicago Sun-Times writer Elliot Harris accompanied Christy Hemme in the match as her "personal escort." He's a sports columnist for the newspaper and often features photos of scantily-clad women in his sports columns. In a column he wrote last week, he included TNA photos of Christy Hemme and Karen Angle, which you can see at the following link. Also, the dark match took place in the Steel Asylum cage, but wasn't used.

IGOTTA BREWSKI def. RANGER MILTON

Brewski murdered Milton with vicious blows and put him away with the Pounce. Brewski has a Putski like physique and is a polish bar fighter. His matches are short but intense and the fans definitely are behind him. Brewski is a shorter Batista and matches his intensity. He has the facial hair of a lord of the ring character.

THE INSURGENCY def. THE MOBILE HOMERS

Insurgency won with a cheap flag shot. Post match they beat up the Homers until the Men of Iron made the save.

TANK TOLAND def. LUMPY MAGOO - Toland made mincemeat of Magoo who is becoming the most popular jobber of OVW. Toland uses the Power Trip for his finisher. Chris Cage came in at the end to jump Toland.

Serena is then being interviewed by Stephanie about the Women's title. Josie interrupts, and Serena answers saying she'll defend the title any place or any time. The other divas of OVW then come in to repeat what Serena just said. I have no idea what this means.

DIRTY MONEY & SCOTT CARDINAL def THE MEN OF IRON

This match was non title and was a faster pace then OVW. MOI had the upper hand until Cardinal hit a short arm clothesline on the outside. Conway made the tag to Buck who cleaned house and finished him off with a 360 spin kick. Buck climbed to the top and was hit from behind with an Iraq flag allowing Cardinal to win. The Insurgency then set up the flag and tried to light it on fire. Conway came back in and laid out the Insurgency with a steel chair and challenged them to a flag match on July 4.

A Frat Pack video was shown with them talking to James Thomas about being a recruit for their fraternity

OVW TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP:

JD puts away another Mobile Homer, thank Jesus, with a ratings spike rude awakening. JD has a new white title, which mysteriously changed from red to white in a week. This was a really good match though.

Al Barone The "MOB" video was aired. He quotes Scarface then talked about having a little friend, but doesnt need one. It sounded better when he said it.

VAUGHN LILAS & APOC vs. LOS LOCOS - Locos now consists of Rudy Switchblade and Raul Loco. I have no idea where this came from. They walked around the crowd like the Locos use to do and shake everyones hand. Then came back and pointed to the curtain showing an injured Ramon Loco who came out to a nice reaction. I almost missed this because I cant stand the crowd entrance and my pointer finger was itchy to fast forward. There really was no match as Apoc and Lilas got disqualified and quickly attacked Ramon. Refs came out to make the save.

OVW CHAMPIONSHIP:

Bravado captures the OVW Championship and with good cause. This match went back and fourth and was very old school. Bravado is more than just a bodybuilder, he gets better every match. Bravado went for his jackhammer finisher several times, as did Nick for his cloverleaf. After Nick missed a dive over the top rope, Bravado hit the jackhammer and beat Nick for the title. There was no cheap roll up, just a plain victory which was a nice touch for a new champion.

Overall: Decent show. I wish there were more matches, or at least longer ones and less backstage segments, especially when a lot of them are repeats of week befores.

Even though he's yet to debut, I heard that Al Barone could be the next on WWE television as he may be a part of Santinos stable. I also heard that the Men of Iron could be apart of that stable as well.

It's nice to see a new young champion. Nick was the first person to take the title once OVW seperated from WWE. Now that OVW is becoming a hotbed for talent again, it is obvious that Bravado is leading the way. Bravado might be the next one taken up by WWE as he does have the exact look they want. JD Michales has restored credibility to the TV title week after week. The OVW ladies division has been better with Serena back, but still lacks talent. I was dissapointed to not see a Joey Matthews babyface return.

ANTHONY BRAVADO def. NICK DINSMORE (C)

JD MICHAELS (C) def. ADAM REVOLVER

CM Punk video is aired to hype six flags.

Mobile Homers are shown grieving about Tubbys loss of the title to JD Michaels. Enter Twinkletoes. They yell and make bad jokes and the show goes on.

JAMIN OLIVENCIA vs. JOEY MATTHEWS no contest

Joey was with his two hired guns Lilas and Apoc who normally help Joey win and kick the crap out of Jman. Jman entered the ring only to reveal a glove from his trunks which revealed that he has been the man paying the two hired guns the last couple of weeks on TV. I thought it was pretty smart and most of the crowd understood, but some did not . Lilas and Apoc knocked around Joey. JMan got his licks in too. I do not know if this means that Jman is a heel now, because it looked like Lilas and Apoc were cheered after beating up Joey.

ANTHONY BRAVADO def. RUDY SWITCHBLADE -

Bravado used his power game to defeat Switchblade with his Jackhammer.

NICK DINSMORE def. DIRTY MONEY

Dirty continues his losing streak and starts the match cocky and arrogant. Dinsmore literally takes his legs out and makes Dirty submit with his cloverleaf submission.

CHRIS CAGE def. RAUL LOCO

Good match with Cage getting the victory with holding onto the rope while loco sunset flipped Cage. I dont know why Loco is alone.

OVW TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: JD MICHAELS (C) def. "TUBBY" TOMMY MCNALER

These two always have entertaining matches, and once again JD uses his sick rude awakening called the "ratings spike" for the three count. The crowd is slowly starting to hate Tubby Tommy and the Mobile Homers.

THE INSURGENCY def. LOS ROJOS

It looks like Turkan is the new powerhouse of the group. Los Rojos are two little guys in masks that just got thrown around. Turcan won with a bodyslam, not the greatest move in the book.

SCOTT CARDINAL def. DARRIEL KELLY

Cardinal still has his loyal group and took most of the offense in this match. Cardinal used a DVD to put away Kelly.

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:

THE MEN OF IRON (C) def. THE WAR PARTY via DQ

The War Party have a native american gimmick, but one looks like a big white guy. The War Party started the match off on the offense but it wasnt until about a minute in where Cardinal, Dirty Money/ and then the Insurgency came in. Buck and Conway fought off as much as they could, but it took six guys to take out two men. I guess this is a way to heat up the tag team scene even more. Conway and Buck were left laying and took a massive beatdown from the other teams.

JD MICHAELS (C) def. "TUBBY" TOMMY MCNALER
9th-Jun-2008 11:30 am - OVW TV Results June 7

IGOTTA BREWSKI def. DIRTY MONEY - Brewski is a bar fighter and is having short matches and killing people with the pounce.

A video was shown of Anthony Bravado being recruited by Bin Hamin to help take on the Ironmen and Paul Burchill at six flags.

JOEY MATTHEWS def. TED "THE TRAILER" MCNALER- A lot of stiff shots and good action. Joey sidestepped Ted and hit his double underhook ddt for the pin.

THE INSURGENCY def. THE MOBILE HOMERS - Mobile Homers dominated most of the matchup until Hamin interfered allowing Ali to hook the camel clutch. No mention of Ackbar.

A video was shown of Cardinal telling Dirty Money he was a chump change for caring what people thought of him and thats why he was a loser. Cardinal told him to watch how its done.

SCOTT CARDINAL def. LUMPY MAGOO- Lumpy Magoo is a big oversized nerd character that reminds me of somehting in the WWE early 90's up with Mantour. Cardinal got on the mic stating how disrespectful that fans are to him, and even put down the smart fan section saying they cheer for him because they are scared not to. Cardinal beat up Magoo and pinned him easy.

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:

OVW TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP:

Overall: Another solid show. OVW used this one to introduce a lot of characters and to advertise for Six Flags with the main event being Ironmen/ Paul Burchill facing Bravado/Insurgency. JD winning the title is a nice touch. Still no Dinsmore, which is a huge negative.

JD MICHAELS def. "TUBBY" TOMMY MCNALER (C) - JD was in control most of this match and Tubby had some great moments using his offensive moves which consisted of biting. JD receives his first OVW championship after beating tubby with the rude awakening that he calls the Ratings Spike.

THE MEN OF IRON (C) def. SHILOH & SERGIO - The MOI ate the other time alive and had all of the offense in this short match. Conway hit a standing rockbottom and Buck came off the top with a high cross body for the three.
9th-Jun-2008 12:23 am - Serena and Josie on TNA PPV
If you missed TNA's Slammiversary, you missed a very interesting surprise. TNA's Knockouts Champion has been working a storyline where she is challenging any woman to get in the ring and defeat her. If they do, they would get a briefcase with $25,000.

Well, shock of shocks, OVW's own Serena and Josie were the two women who took up the challenge. They didn't win their matches, but it was great to see them get a chance to appear internationally on television.
1st-Jun-2008 02:10 pm - OVW TV Results !! May 31

The show opened up with another Martin "Twinkle Toes" Evans trying to pull a prank on the Mobilehomers. I think this gag is getting extremely stale. Every week they pull pranks on each other, but the only thing really lacking is humor.

TANK TOLAND def. JAMES THOMAS- Tank is doing Simon Dean type moves now with pushups and jumping jacks onto guys chests. Toland threw around a massive 300lb guy like he was a cruiserweigh. Tank does a new Farooq style spinebuster for a finisher called the Power Trip.

ANTHONY BRAVADO def. JOSH LOWRY- Bravado destroyed Josh Lowry and cut a promo on Jerry Lawler who he will be facing at the next six flags. Bravado is probably bigger then almost everyone in WWE and looks to be one of OVWs future main eventers. Bravado uses the Jackhammer as a finisher.

CHRIS CAGE def. JOHNNY PUNCH- Johnny Punch sports a new look, which works for him. Cage has been a consistent performer and they had a good match until Cage put him away with his DDT into an Elbow Drop.

JOEY MATTHEWS def. RUDY SWITCHBLADE - Joey is still in amazing shape. There's a feud between JD and Switchblade growing in the Newcomers tournament as JD came out to help Joey get the win. Joey has lost the MNM look and comes out to no music which is a nice change. His gimmick now is a no nonsense heel that just brutally destroys anyone is his way.

Von Lilas and Apoc are a new team in OVW but there has been vignettes with someone giving them a paycheck week after week. I believe they are now hired guns, but the question is for who.

OVW TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP:

A new montage is shown for three preppy looking kids speaking about a fraternity thats coming to OVW.

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:

Overall: OVW still has the best wrestling show out there, and its obvious that most of these guys will make it to the WWE or TNA. The only sad thing is that the OVW Heavyweight Title is almost nonexistent as the champion is barely around. Nobody has even feuded for more than two weeks with Nick Dinsmore. The hottest thing going right now is the Tag Team Division because of the Ironmen, Locos, and Insurgency.

THE MEN OF IRON def. THE INSURGENCY (C) This match went about twenty minutes and was well worth watching. The Ironmen now wear red, white, and blue gear. Buck wears White shades, Conway wears black but it works. The Insurgency still have an amazing gimmick and I still cant help but hate them. Buck took the lead in the beginning but was cut on the outside after getting smashed with the Iraq flag. Buck eventually makes the tag to Conway who cleans house until the Insurgency used their numbers to distract the ref. Turkan went to hit Conway with the flag but ends up hitting Ali. Conway covers for the pin and the Ironmen are the new OVW Tag Team Champions! The two celebrate in the ring as they plug for next six flags.

"TUBBY" TOMMY MCNALER (C) def. JD MICHAELS - JD is one of the best in OVW and has the coolest tights. He looks like HBK but talks like Bret on the mic. Before the match he cut a promo on the Mobile Homers and how Tubby can't win without them there. He called him a sham. JD took control of all of the match until Rudy came out to distract JD, and Tubby hit the Acid Drop.
25th-May-2008 04:42 pm - OVW TV Results May 24!!!
The Show opened up with a backstage segment with Mobile Homers, who are practical jokers/white trash group, playing yet another prank on announcer Martin Twinkletoes Evans.

RUDY SWITCHBLADE def. SCOTT CARDINAL- Good match with plenty of action. Rudy is a smaller guy and Cardinal is over with the die hard fans. Rudy has been hitting the frogsplash to the back the last few matches. He is one of the pure fan favorites of OVW and pound for pound the best high flyer.
There was a video in the back of Conway speaking to Buck and confronting him about stealing his look. Conway says how he can't wear the black shades anymore, but got him his own "Man of Iron" shades which are white. They walk off for their match.

FOR TAG TITLE SHOT AT SIX FLAGS MAY 30TH:
THE MEN OF IRON def. THE INSURGENCY The Ironmen get more over every week. These teams have good chemistry and the fans know instantly who to cheer for. Buck took the beating and Conway made a hard hitting comeback. Conway pinned Ali with a crucifix out of nowhere and the fans went apeshit.
OVW TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP:
"TUBBY" TOMMY MCNALER (C) def. JD MICHAELS - JD does what he always does and thats make his opponents look amazing. Tubby Tommy is a lot like Crash Holly and doesnt need his entourage. I would like to see him turn heel.
JOEY MATTHEWS def. JOSH LOWRY - Joey murdered Josh and finished him with his double underhook DDT. Sickest move in OVW right now.
LOS LOCOS def. BRENT WELLINGTON & JAMES THOMAS - Locos did there through the entrance gig and manhandled the other guys. The tag team division is probably the strongest thing going on in OVW.
TANK TOLAND def. LIGHTFOOT - Tank's second time back and the fans are sticking kindly to him. Tank has a whole new aresnal but finished with his patented Tank Turret. (spinning polish hammer)
OVW CHAMPIONSHIP:
NICK DINSMORE (C) def. APOC - Apoc is a guy who has blossomed especially after changing his look. The match went back and forth until Nick put him away with the cloverleaf. The only thing I question is that there hasnt been anyone to compete with Nick since he came back. I would think that Joey will be next champion.

Segment after the show: Chris Cage took to the ring and started running his month. Cue Elijah Burke to an enormous response. OVW has always been fan friendly, but this segment looked like a shoot. Burke spoke about how Cage was bitter since he never made it up to WWE and that he blew his chance. Cage and Elijah traded blows until Cage backed off. This is setting up for Six Flags.
Joey Mercury came out and spoke more trash. Elijah poked fun at Joey and his lackee Von Lilas. I cant remember what was said, but to everyone suprise Elijah stated that he had a friend with him that wanted to knock some sense into Joey more than he did. Cue John Morrison/Nitro! Morrison came out to the loudest response of the night. Morrison challenged Joey to a match that went about twenty minutes long. Morrison hit the "Moonlight Ride" for the victory.

OVW really shocked us here and even though WWE has pulled their deal. It does not dissappoint. I see OVW still as the future of WWE, with or without the deal. Where else could you see Joey Mercury versus John Morrison?
